She is sunshine.

She is sunshine.

Julie S., age 67

I can honestly say that I never expected to be this busy at my age, nor did I expect to reach senior status so quickly! Traditionally, 65+ year-olds quit working and slow down to enjoy their grandchildren and their memories; or so I thought. Instead, most of my older friends are enjoying very busy and active lives.

Working for myself as an artist gives me the freedom to do what I want when I want. It doesn’t feel like work when you find something you love to do and have opportunities to share it with others. Many of my older adult students agree with me that age is irrelevant when it comes to challenging ourselves and learning something new. One thing I have noticed is that the rewards of living longer become more apparent. I have become more particular about whom I spend time with and open up to. Close relationships grow even closer, and friends become like family.

I happened to be blessed with good health, a loving and supportive spouse, independent adult children, and many wonderful and caring friends. I enjoy an active lifestyle and will admit that this decade, my 60s, has been my favorite so far.
