While National Sushi Day may not be marked on every calendar, Eva Mahan made it a special day for fellow residents at The Watermark at Oro Valley. She shared her Hawaiian, Filipino, and Chinese background by teaching a class through Watermark University.
As reported on Channel 4 Tucson KVOA.com, Eva enjoys sharing stories about her culture, its cuisine, and her upbringing on Hawaii’s Big Island. She delighted community residents with a demonstration, preparing musubi for them. The popular island treat consists of a slice of grilled spam on top of a block of sticky rice that’s wrapped in seaweed.
That’s not all Eva’s done, either. She’s helped residents understand the meaning of hula and leads morning classes in tai chi, hula, and yoga.
Eva says she loves talking with her friends in her friendly senior community. She sees them all as family, which is the Hawaiian way.
