The Hacienda at the River® was recently featured in an article published by McKnights Senior Living for its engaging program — and how it helps members nurture more meaningful connections.
The program, called In the Presence of Horses®, was included in a study exploring the positive therapeutic bonds between horses and humans. The study found that members who participated in brushing, petting, and spending time with the horses breathed more slowly and deeper, increasing their diastolic blood pressure and producing more oxygen and nutrients.
“The program has great benefits,” said David Lavin, psychotherapist and equine therapist. “The benefit of having them here in the community is groundedness, connection, and gives the members something to look forward to.”
