A Brief History of Beverly Hills
The original inhabitants, the native Tongva, called the area "the Gathering of the Waters." Beverly Hills first developed primarily as an agricultural community. It was first incorporated as a city in September 1914, by a group of investors who had failed to find oil but found water instead. Actors Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks launched the migration of movie stars from Hollywood when they built their famous home, Pickfair, in 1919. Beverly Hills is now known as an affluent, upscale city that celebrates Hollywood glamour.
