“So many open, friendly, welcoming people … the staff, the residents,” another added. And perhaps the most telling quote of all?
“They all know your name. You know, it’s like Cheers — ‘It’s where everybody knows your name.’”
Discovering New Passions at Any Age
For many, life at Millbrook has been full of unexpected firsts. Carol also shared, “I never expected to live someplace like this … I’ve never been in art — I’m still not, but I have fun … I’m learning to write, I’m learning how to crochet.”
She went on to say, “My brain is more active than it was when I moved here,” a sentiment echoed by others who find purpose and stimulation through new hobbies, classes, and conversations.

“You’re meeting new people, you have a different environment, you’re learning things … it’s just you’re old,” one resident said with a laugh.
