YOU’RE NOT ALONE Aging is inevitable but the burden of daily chores and safety concerns doesn’t have to be. Get the facts and discover worry-free retirement. “Here there is always something to do and you’re with people. You don’t have to worry about your meals. It’s much easier because as I said I was alone in the house, after a while I couldn’t drive so you couldn’t get together with people.” – Pauline Santoro, resident of The Fountains at RiverVue

MEET PAULINE SANTORO, LIFELONG NEW YORKER AND EXPERIENCED TRAVELER WHO IS LOVING HER LATEST ADVENTURE HERE AT THE FOUNTAINS. You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Pauline Santoro on Wednesday, November 8th, 2017. To read the full, unedited transcript, please click here.)

Pauline is familiar with the bright lights and big city buzz of New York, having lived in New Rochelle for more than 80 years prior to her move to The Fountains last May. In the city, she worked as a secretary in the Rockefeller Plaza area after attending school at Katharine Gibbs College. Although her permanent address was the same for quite some time, Pauline made sure to add a few stamps to her passport over the years. Some of her favorites include the Canadian Rockies, different countries in Europe including Austria and various U.S. National Parks. Pauline now enjoys daily adventure, all in one place. She takes advantage of what The Fountains has to offer and rarely keeps to herself within her fourth-floor studio residence. Frequent and convenient visits from her son, who lives just down the street are just another great reason to love living in this worry-free community.

WHY SETTLE? You’ve worked hard for your retirement so why settle for days of boredom and home maintenance when they can be filled with favorite pastimes and delicious chef-prepared meals? Pauline didn’t want to waste another minute alone. No longer driving and experiencing some memory loss, Pauline knew she deserved more out of life so she decided to make a change. "I’ve found it very good here. They have a lot of nice programs and we have exercise every day, they have people come in and present on different things. They have bridge, poker, knitting, just a variety of things that keep you interested. And we have movies in the afternoon and in the evening so I have found it very enjoyable." – Pauline Santoro

THE BEST ROUTE Pauline was accustomed to meeting friends for lunch and taking trips around town, so when memory loss put the brakes on her driving she didn’t hesitate to find another route to enjoy life. She stays plenty busy visiting with old friends and new without the hassle of driving. "Then I realized that I no longer could stay in my house because I was having a bit of memory loss and we looked at The Fountains which was very close by to people I know that could visit and also my son. We usually have a driver who has the van and he takes us to these different places. I’m mainly out of the room most of the day, which I enjoy." – Pauline Santoro

PEACE OF MIND Pauline and her only son, Bill, remain close and are both very pleased with her decision to move to The Fountains. With available care, delicious meals and transportation the only question is what programs Pauline will choose to fill the day. "The exercise every day, we have jumble time, crosswords, knitting, we go on day trips that I enjoy, things like that…being here is easier on my son and easy on me. You can be as active as you want…" – Pauline Santoro   Our library is stocked from floor to ceiling, grab a good book and get lost on an adventure for an hour.DON’T JUST TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT Meet Pauline over a drink in the dining room or cappuccino on our terrace.
