Oregon’s largest city, Portland, is situated at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers. With its proximity to the Oregon Trail, the city supported a thriving timber trade by the late 19th century, and experienced growth and broadened its industrial base following World War II, including a technology boom in the second half of the 20th century.

The city celebrates its many distinct neighborhoods – the six so-called "quadrants" – and draws visitors with live music events, topflight restaurants, wide-ranging artisans, biking culture, and sports. With its perfect climate for growing roses Portland has been called the "City of Roses" for more than a century.

Situated across Lake Washington from Seattle, Bellevue offers beautiful mountain, water, and city views, along with a vibrant downtown. Shopping at Bellevue Square is a favorite pastime, as is taking a hike in the nearby Cascade Mountain trails, kayaking or sailing on one of the three area lakes, and wine tasting in nearby Woodinville. Head across the bridge into Seattle, and buy fresh fish and fragrant flowers at the Pike Place Market, where you can also visit the original Starbucks. Check out the Arboretum, the Seattle Art Museum, and so many other venues for entertainment and culture.
