If you're looking for the perfect way to stay in shape this summer, look no further. Here at Parkview in Frisco, we offer a variety of aquatic fitness programs that are sure to be a splashing good time! Aquatic exercise is a particularly excellent option for fitness enthusiasts, as it provides an opportunity to beat the summer heat, build social connections, and have fun while staying active. Due to the buoyancy the water provides, these exercises put less stress on joints which ultimately helps to relieve arthritis and joint pain. The resistance of the water allows for individuals to strengthen muscles and increase bone density and muscle mass without the use heavy weights or equipment.

Our popular Watermark University Water Aerobics class is held twice a week, every Wednesday and Saturday at 2:00 pm. This class is led by our wonderful and lively Community Life Associate, Christiane Martineau. Her enthusiasm and knowledge of physical fitness are a perfect combination when it comes to offering residents a low impact workout that delivers high results. She keeps everyone working at a steady pace while maintaining a light-hearted atmosphere, essentially enabling residents to connect with each other while staying physically fit. These classes are always followed by a high spirited game of water volleyball, which brings much excitement and encourages friendly competition amongst class participants. Be on the lookout for our upcoming water volleyball tournament with Reedy High School’s Joining Generations Club which will take place once the academic school year resumes.

Another terrific aquatic fitness offering made available to Parkview residents is Aqua Boxing. This class is offered on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 2:00 pm. Fitness instructor and former boxer, Tristan Ellison of TEF, leads residents in this very unique and highly effective form of exercise. After facing a leg injury, Tristan was no longer able to box as he had for the majority of his life. He was determined to stay engaged in the sport that he had loved for so long and as a result began boxing sitting down, which led to his idea of offering seated boxing and aqua boxing to senior living communities. Tristan is very motivational and engages residents in movements that increase strength, mobility, coordination, and resistance - all of which are so vital in building core body strength and keeping oneself mentally alert. If you're looking to get back in the swim of things, maybe it's time to dive right in to one of our aquatic fitness programs!
