Pinebrook resident Sidney P., a 98-year-old WWII veteran, had the amazing opportunity to revisit a B-17 bomber plane — the same type of aircraft he once flew on daring missions during the war.
Not only did he get to tour the plane and relive some unforgettable memories, but he also had the chance to autograph it, leaving his mark on history once again. Located at the Lunken Airport in the East End neighborhood of Cincinnati, the B-17 Flying Fortress – aptly named “Sentimental Journey” – is filled with signatures of other veterans inside the bomb bay doors.
Sidney served as a flight engineer and ball turret gunner on a similar B-17, flying more than 20 combat missions in the North African and European theaters.
