Local Legends
At The Fountains at Greenbriar, one mystery outing last summer turned into the beginning of a monthly adventure that was the talk of the community.
Community Life Director Tamera wanted to do something different to surprise residents. That surprise has become a monthly tradition where residents and associates make their way to Score Sports Bar & Grill to order drinks, appetizers, and sing their favorite karaoke songs.
"They just had such a great time. The staff and all the patrons there treated us so well and so special. [They] just made us feel so welcome,” Tamera said. “So [the residents] said, ‘We want to do this every month.’”
One Thursday every month, you’ll now find a group of residents sharing appetizers, getting scratch-offs, and cheering each other on as they sing their go-to songs. And sometimes at the end of the night, they’ll all get on stage together to sing songs like “We Are Family” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love With You.”
During one visit around the holidays, a local storm knocked out power. This didn’t faze the residents as they began singing Christmas songs with others in attendance at the Score.
Beverly, a resident who has lived at The Fountains at Greenbriar for three years, said the power outage was the first time in her life she closed down a bar. She emphasized that the outing has been a positive experience for all of the residents.
“This is the first time in 90 years that I’ve been there when a bar shut down,” she laughed. “... I could tell you so many funny stories that happened there, we laugh so much when we’re there. There’s people here who it has actually helped. I think it’s just so good for everybody.”

Monthly karaoke has allowed residents and associates to not only connect and bond with each other, but also with local community members.
"It’s something that you have to go to experience to really get a feel of just how special it is,” Tamera said. “I think one of the most special parts about it is how good the staff and other patrons there treat us and make us feel. They always are just so genuinely happy to see us there. They cheer everyone on.”
“I think it really does benefit all of us because I think it brings out something in us that sometimes people don’t see,” Beverly said. “You have to understand that the other patrons in the place for instance — someone gets up in our group to sing, and they clap as loudly for us as they do for their own group. It just makes us feel good.”
