The Heart of a Dancer

Resident doing the splits in front of the Rockettes step and repeat wall.

When The Glades at ChampionsGate resident Jeannette Dunstan hits the dance floor, all eyes are on her. And why shouldn’t they be? At 91 years young, Jeannette commands audiences and judges alike, captivating them with every graceful step and spin. With her immense talent, you would have thought Jeannette had been dancing for decades. In fact, she actually began taking dance lessons with Eddie Rivera, the talented owner of Dance It Studio in Orlando, just over 10 years ago — when she was 80 years old.

“I know that she really wanted to get serious [about] dancing,” Eddie recalls. “And then I found out she has so much talent!”

“It’s good for the mind, body, and soul,” Jeannette says of her love for dancing.

With Jeannette’s natural gift for dancing mixed with plenty of practice, she has taken the dance world by storm, performing with Eddie in professional and amateur competitions across the nation and world. And this dynamic duo has no plans to slow down.

But her dreams didn’t stop there. Jeannette had always wanted to meet a Radio City Rockette, so during the holidays, she was treated to a trip to New York City to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and meet the Rockettes backstage as part of Watermark’s Extraordinary Outings program. During the meet and greet, Jeannette even pulled out her signature move and dropped into a perfect split!

With her passion for movement and determination to hit all her marks, Jeannette proves that you can achieve your goals at any age.
